Texas saddle, 1850: When the cattle business moved to Texas the elaborate skirt disappeared and the leather-bound wooden horn became thicker and sturdier for heavy-duty roping. The stirrups were made of wide steam-bent wood – stronger and more durable than hollowed wood. The fenders protected the rider’s legs from the animal’s sweat.
